The origin of VT Group lies in the foundation of the company ‘Maatschappij Motortankschip Pendrecht’ operating one of the first tanker vessels in 1916.
De ‘Vereenigde Tankreederij’ received her first official name with the start of a joint venture between 4 companies active in the storage and shipping of petrochemicals and edibles in 1932.
These companies were named ‘De Nieuwe Matex’, ‘Pakhuismeesteren’, ‘Tankmaatschappij Dipping’ and ‘Phs. Scheepvaartbedrijf Van Ommeren’.
Along with the development of the petrochemical industry and the growth of the Port of Rotterdam, VT started to specialize in the transport and bunkering of petrochemicals instead of edible oils. With the fleet renewal program of the last decennia, VT invested heavily in double hull vessels and scale enlargement.
The company fleet currently consists of more than 20 inland and seagoing tankers varying from 220 MT to 14.000 MT. One of the barges still counts as the world’s biggest inland tanker vessel (Mts. Vorstenbosch). All vessels are highly sophisticated and equipped with the latest and most modern features.
VT opened its first international office in Panama in 2009, where one of our long-term customers requested seagoing barges on both sides of the Panama Canal. This was the first footstep out of the Rotterdam region and expressed the ambition of sharing knowledge with the international shipping industry.
Now, almost 100 years after its foundation, VT Group grew up to be a globally well-known and respected shipping company
